New HP Cartridges – Look Like Canon Or Epson:

Looks like Hewlett Packard is taking a page out of the Epson, Canon, and Brother playbooks. HP has some new printers that use individual ink tanks, as well as a dual cartridge marketing strategy – the 564 series ink cartridge. There are two types of these cartridges, the half-full of ink HP 564, and the mostly full of ink HP 564XL series cartridge. Both cartridges are physically the same size, however HP fills the XL up with ink, and only puts about half the ink for the 564 series cartridges.
The HP 564 Series Ink Cartridges.
The 564 and 564XL cartridges are the exact same physical size – HP just puts less ink in the cheaper cartridges.
HP 564 Cartridges:
- HP 564 – CB316WN – Black ($11.73) – 250 pages*
- HP 564 – CB317WN – Photo Black ($9.98) – 130 4×6 prints*
- HP 564 – CB318WN – Cyan ($9.99) – 300 pages*
- HP 564 – CB319WN – Magenta ($9.99) – 300 pages*
- HP 564 – CB320WN – Yellow ($9.99) – 300 pages*
That is $51.69 for a set of these cartridges – mixed color text use will net you about 125 pages. Not very good at all. That is about .41 per print, ouch.

You are kidding right? Full ink cartridges will cost you – a full set of these cartridges will cost you a cool $104.00?!? Time to go with a CI system for this printer series.

*Please. We seriously doubt those page count numbers. You can figure about 40% less for everyday printing. They put the same information on the box our Photosmart B8550 tabliod sizes inkjet printer.
